Today, Friday, May 19, we traveled into Mukuru, a slum we recent found out that is one of the largest slums in the world. As a team, we taught to the high school ages girls The Red Elephant project. This project gives these women reusable pads to be used during their menstruation cycle. More than 100 girls, as well as 15 teachers were grateful for these donations. Without this project, many of these women are not able to afford pads and then consequently not able to attend school/work. The men on the trip were able to speak with the boys about personal hygiene. After, the boys and girls were excited to come and talk/play with us. We were dancing and taking lots of pictures. All of the children were well behaved and were just so happy that we, as a group, wanted to come see and talk with them. While trying to the leave, the children were actually holding onto us not letting us go. It was quite funny and cute.

We all survived our first day in Africa and even though traffic through Nairobi can be a nightmare, we talked during our rides. Tomorrow will be another adventure.
