Today we journeyed out to the slum of Haruma. We went to the Ark School which is 70% Muslim and 30% Christian. We taught the teachers about water purification, basic first aid skills, and hand hygiene. Each teacher was able to assemble a water purifier and take it home to their families.
We toured the school and met all the children. They all got to take home a piece of candy and a beanie baby. They sang us a few songs and were extremely well behaved and grateful. They all LOVE being in school, care for one another, and share their belongings.
We also got to shop at the school's little store.  The children's mothers work in the shop sewing little purses and handbags to help pay the school fee for their children. The bags were all so vibrantly colored and beautiful. Needless to say, us ladies purchased a lot. We also got to go across the walkway to buy some fabrics and scarves. The women at the school took our fabrics, measured us, and made them into dresses for us. It was very cool.
We headed out of Haruma before it got dark and returned back to the hotel. We ate dinner, planned our day for tomorrow and headed to bed.

With love,
   Nikki Jumbeck
